Went on the Tuff Ride tonight.
http://tuesdaynightrideclub.blogspot.com/ A pretty intense ride leaving out of punch pizza in uptown. Mostly made up of road bikers (racers). This is my 3rd one this year. I would like to tell you I enjoyed it and had a good ride, but I didn't and I didn't. I tried to hydrate today do to the heat and the fact I got my arms (and legs) torn off at swimming this AM, but I don't think I succeeded. I brought two bottles of water, but needed two bottles of gatorade and some gu or something. I rode about 4 miles to get to the start, and we headed out. I was a bit tired, with some serious dry mouth. I tried to drink, but it got ugly about 25 miles in. I hung on and was doing quite well, but completely hit the wall around mile 30. I almost wrecked when we were pace lining into the wind at about 25mph when we all hit a branch in the road that some donkey forgot to point out....which might have been tough at 25mph. we added 6 miles onto our normal route and I just fell off the back. they waited for me and 3 others, and then we tried to hang on for another 10 miles. eventually I just pulled off to a SA got a snickers and 2 gatorades and cried. I got back on found some trailing donkeys rode with them for a few miles and mashed my way home into the wind solo the last 12 miles. I was in rough shape. I still am. Bonking 30 miles from your car after riding with a tail wind is not cool. I didn't bring my phone with me because it was hot and I didn't want to drench it...but I would have given my right arm to call for a ride.
anyway. the life of a bike racer want to be is not all that. I am eating carrots, hummus and dark chocolate while drinking orange juice and watching the colbert report. I need my bed.
