Went on the Tuff Ride tonight.  http://tuesdaynightrideclub.blogspot.com/  A pretty intense ride leaving out of punch pizza in uptown.   Mostly made up of road bikers (racers).  This is my 3rd one this year.  I would like to tell you I enjoyed it and had a good ride,  but I didn't and I didn't.  I tried to hydrate today do to the heat and the fact I got my arms (and legs) torn off at swimming this AM, but I don't think I succeeded.   I brought two bottles of water,  but needed two bottles of gatorade and some gu or something.  I rode about 4 miles to get to the start,  and we headed out.  I was a bit tired,  with some serious dry mouth.  I tried to drink,  but it got ugly about 25 miles in.  I hung on and was doing quite well,  but completely hit the wall around mile 30.  I almost wrecked when we were pace lining into the wind at about 25mph when we all hit a branch in the road that some donkey forgot to point out....which might have been tough at 25mph.  we added 6 miles onto our normal route and I just fell off the back.  they waited for me and 3 others,  and then we tried to hang on for another 10 miles.  eventually I just pulled off to a SA got a snickers and 2 gatorades and cried.  I got back on found some trailing donkeys rode with them for a few miles and mashed my way home into the wind solo the last 12 miles.  I was in rough shape.  I still am.  Bonking 30 miles from your car after riding with a tail wind is not cool.  I didn't bring my phone with me because it was hot and I didn't want to drench it...but I would have given my right arm to call for a ride.

anyway.  the life of a bike racer want to be is not all that.  I am eating carrots, hummus and dark chocolate while drinking orange juice and watching the colbert report.  I need my bed.

I was a little worried when I parted with my $1600 for a tri-bike that I might miss the fun of group rides - I train alone or ride with my wife Marcy (which lets me be off the aeros most of the time). With stories like above, I have a good excuse to miss the 'fun'. Getting dropped by in training runs is not bad as long as you know the way back. Mike Roddy and I found that out the hard way omn the River Bottoms training run last Fall. >50 tri newbe.

River falls needs to be your friend, we will let you know when the rides depart, lots of options for you and your new felt to address the hills, the winds and the occaisional dog that wants to be your friend. Bring the special lady friend as it is a beutiful place to get some miles in and the cars are actually nice to you.....

Great that the your group allows tri-bikes.  Marcy is just getting back after her hospital stay, but is entered in both the 'new' Team Ortho Minneapolis Duathlon and hoping to better her Aflac IronGirl Duathlon time of last year.

Sat.

Ride from Hoffman Park in River Falls. I will have the

100 mile option as well as a 60 for people if they like. I will be going the

100. Remember there is the 10 percent rule so the distances could change and

there is a remote chance of gravel and a smaller chance of getting lost. Bring

at least 2 big bottles and food for before, during and after. Let me know if

you are coming so I can bring the right number of cue sheets. I promise quite

roads and lots of dogs and hills. Run afterwards to your liking.

Sun.

8 am swim from Christmas lake boat launch followed by a

double looper from Hyland. We will swim about an hour and should be running by

9:45. Then eat lots of food and collapse on the couch.
