I am no expert, but what I have read is that under 90 minutes it is not as critical as over 90 minutes, Olympics are usually plus 2 hours, so it becomes important. What I have learned is feed yourself on the bike because it is tough to eat on the run. The balance is guaging your effort level with your ability to take in food and drink. for many people they work so hard that they can't eat, then it is bonk time not donk time. The best advice I have taken to heart....when you are feeling great in a race....EAT (most people make the mistake of speeding up) and when you can't eat.....slow down until you can. obviously the longer the race, the more important nutrition.
The first olympic distance Tri I ever did, I just told myself it was the same as a soccer game with overtime...and I knew I could do that.

Practice eating when you are training. That helps out a lot. You will understand what happens to your body when you ingest food during a work out and how it responds. Test out a lot of different types of energy replacements. What works for one person doesn't work for another. Also, change up the flavor. You might like orange one day and then in the race orange makes you want to vomitt. Remember the KISS principle also. Water is always key to success. Use the gu's and drinks as adjuncts to water.
